He never quite gets out of his child-like nature, but does gain a surprising degree of wisdom.
Character Development: Necessary because he was quite literally newborn at the start of the series. Breath Weapon: Most of his forms can spit a powerful blast of flames. Was brought out of it by Leomon, who beaned him over the head with the flat of his sword. Brainwashed and Crazy: When Guilmon gets on the motorcycle and begins to run over everything in his path. Body Horror: As Megidramon, it has a second mouth that opens its nasal cavity. Blood Knight: While not quite to Renamon's initial extent, as a Virus-type Combat Species, Guilmon is usually eager for battle, and his reaction to enemy Digimon showing up is to snarl in anticipation of fighting them. Gallantmon has a Jousting Lance below the shoulder. Blade Below the Shoulder: Growlmon, WarGrowlmon, and Megidramon all have arm-blades that get larger with each Digivolution. as well as the culmination of Takato's Character Arc of setting aside what he thinks is cool in order to become genuinely heroic. Justified since Gallantmon is not a natural evolution but a fusion with Takato. Bishōnen Line: His forms get steadily more monstrous and complex until eventually he becomes Gallantmon, a minimalist Knight in Shining Armor with barely any resemblance to his previous forms. Beware the Silly Ones: The most childlike of all the digimons but is a very ferocious fighter. He gains control over it though with time, and completely sheds this tendency as Gallantmon. This hits its most extreme point when he dark digivolves to Megidramon, who essentially is an embodiment of uncontrollable rage. This becomes more prominent as he Digivolves, with Takato explicitly worrying about how Guilmon seems to become uniquely feral the more powerful he gets. In his first few battles, his instinctive bloodlust rendered him blind to everything but the opponent until Takato snapped him out of it. The Berserker: True to his nature as a viral Combat Species, Guilmon is initially extremely aggressive and charges into battle focused solely on attacking. It risks collapsing the entire Digital World for as long as it exists. In this form, Guilmon loses all restraint and conscious thought, fully unleashing the power of the Digital Hazard in his rampage. Beast of the Apocalypse: His corrupted Mega form, Megidramon. Justified, since both names derive from the English word 'Growl'. Barely Changed Dub Name: Growmon is just one letter off from Growlmon. Balloon Belly: Whenever he eats too much his stomach bulges comedically. He also used it to put out a fire he walked out of. Badass Cape: Gallantmon has a flowing crimson cape, befitting his nature as a draconic knight. (In contrast, none of his allies - or Beelzemon, during his Heel period - got to finish off more than one Deva.)
Badass Adorable: He's a child-sized cartoony therapod, but is the most powerful of the three main Digimon, with a kill record that includes six of the twelve Devas in his higher forms.Ooh, Shiny!: When not fighting, he can be distracted by a lot of things.
Antiquated Linguistics: His speech as Gallantmon in the original Japanese is made of this, akin to a samurai or a warrior serving a lord in general, befitting his design. This extends to his Growlmon and WarGrowlmon forms. Ascended Fanon: In-universe, being thought up by Takato.
Art Initiates Life: Rather than being an existing Digimon who chose to join a human, Guilmon was created when Takato's Digivice scanned his hand-drawn fan art.Ambiguous Robot: Gallantmon looks like a mecha, but he's only ever identified as a Holy Knight type Digimon. While it's very powerful, it also has very little intelligence and it threatens to destroy not only the Digital World but also the real world by merely existing! All Animals Are Dogs: He acts more like a puppy than a digital dinosaur.Voiced by: Masako Nozawa (JP), Steve Blum (Gallantmon and Gallantmon Crimson Mode shared with Brian Beacock) (EN), Pepe Carabias (Spain), Mariana Gómez (Latin America, as Guilmon), Luis Tenorio (Latin America, as Growlmon, WarGrowlmon and MegiDramon), Manuel Campuzano and Mauricio Valverde (Latin America, as Gallantmon)
